Indoor Light Needs : Med - Bright light.
The Giant Bird of Paradise is the epitemy of a tropical garden. The perfect potted specimen next to your pool. It’s increasingly being used as a ‘Houseplant’ & with good reason. Considering they grow in full sun to a massive size in the garden, you are going to need to give it sufficient light to have success. If you want it in a particular spot that doesn’t receive ample light, why not rotate your plants around as they need.
In an indoor space, they will do best in a bright filtered spot. Morning (unfiltered) direct light isn’t an issue either.
Water: Most larger potted plants & trees prefer to be in the ground. This is important to remember as when they are confined to a pot they can become dry or too wet before you realise. Smaller plants can be watered easily using the soaking method. Unless you are going to keep your Strelitzia outside then you are still going to want to keep it inside it's original plastic nursery pot. This way you can take it out of it's decorative pot and water it in a big tub or even throw it in the shower.
Plant Notes : This plant has an interesting way of protecting itself from strong winds. The lines on the leaves allow it to split in strong wind rather than catching all the breeze and blowing over. This is why you rarely see an established plant in the garden with perfect leaves! So don't be concerned when the leaves appear to tear. Despite what Instagram may have you believing, no plant looks & stays perfect! Embrace the imperfections.
