Monstera adansonii is a fantastic houseplant that with a small amount of care will reward you with fast growth. It will trail but in our experience it looks & performs much nicer growing upwards attached to a totem or string. It is the ultimate ‘Jungle Plant’. Grow it up a support & across the roof of a space to create a green ‘frame’.
The fragile nature of the leaves means that if you let it get too dry some of the leaves will show damage. Equally, overwatering will cause similar problems. By monitoring the soil moisture & plant itself you will learn when it needs a water.
This plant is happy to be watered as per our general houseplant watering guide below. To maintain nice healthy foliage you can liquid fertilise every 6-8 weeks between September & April. Over winter watering will be less frequent but be aware that heaters & fireplaces will dry the plant out much faster than normal so let the leaves tell you when they’re thirsty. If they feel soft & limp then they are lacking moisture.

Plant Notes : If you have this plant growing up and around wires or curtains it’s going to be difficult to take it outside to water right? The solution is to have it in a place where you can lift it up and put a small bucket underneath. This way you can still soak water & then allow it to drain into an empty bucket afterwards. If it’s desperate for a drink but you don’t have time for this, you can sit something underneath & then top water several times & allow to drain.
